Renuka Purimetla

Renuka is enrolled in the Interpreter Preparation Program at the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) to earn her certificate of completion. She will pursue her National Interpreter's Certification (NIC) through the Registry of Interprets for the Deaf (RID) once she graduates. In 2003, she received a Bachelor of Science in Family and Child Studies from Northern Illinois University (N.I.U) and has many years of interacting with the Deaf Community under her belt.

Renuka has moved to Baltimore from Chicago in the summer of 2008 and has become very active in the Deaf community in Maryland. She has taken on leadership roles and is currently the President of the student ASL Club on campus. For the past several years Renuka has served as CCBC’s Administrative Assistant. She has been successful at planning workshops, giving information to prospective and current students, or arranging for interpreters for our staff.

Renuka is delighted to be involved with B.E.L.I.E.V.E. She considers performing in ASL a beautiful method of executing music, with the added benefit of giving deaf people the opportunity to view an interpreted song. It also allows a chance to educate hearing audiences on Deaf culture and the complexities of ASL. Renuka strongly feels the flowing movements of signs along with music can be a magnificent way to enhance the music experience and build unity for all.
