Robin Laura Poponne has performed in New York City with the Charles Moore Dance Theatre and on and off Broadway with the Pepsi Bethel Jazz Ensemble. In the U.S. Virgin Islands, she was a charter member of the Caribbean Dance Company of St. Croix. Her love of dance led her to the Baltimore-Washington D.C. area where she became a dance-movement therapist and joined the Kankouran West African Dance Company. She joined the Sankofa Dance Theater family in 1990 and enjoys dancing with her daughter, Olu Butterfly, who is also a Sankofa dancer. Currently she is studying voice, tapdance with Ed Terry, and American Sign Language in the Interpreter Preparation Program at the Community College of Baltimore County – Catonsville.
